Belated Welcome for the New Year

Sorry it’s taken so long to produce our first newsletter for 2006. For those who are new to the club, welcome, and we hope that you and your children enjoy their swimming at the club. This year we currently have 124 children registered with the club and 43 new members who have joined since the start of the year.

Hindley Swimming Club as been running for 25 years now and we are always looking for ways to keep the club running successfully. If any of you would like to volunteer yourselves to help us please feel free to let any of the committee know. Any contribution no matter how big or small would help from helping our new swimmers learn to swim, raising money for the club, helping at the pool side, joining the committee, please feel free to come forward.

Club Tee Shirts and Tracksuits

We are looking at ordering some club tee shirts and tracksuit tops. These will include a logo of the club and the name of any child who orders one. Hopefully we will have a sample of each for you to look at and order sometime in April. The prices for each will also be available at that time. Please note the club shop also sells many other items on behalf of the club, swimming costumes, goggles, floats and pull boys, you can see and purchase these items on Tuesday evenings

Dates for the Diary

I know it’s early but here a couple of dates for your diaries.

The annual Club Championships will be on the 11^th and 12^th November.

The Splash night will be on the 19^th December.

Children’s Christmas disco 9^th December.

Awards for Swimming Times

We will be introducing and awards scheme for children at the club. This is an ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) scheme that rewards children for the times they swim. There are 3 categories Bronze, Silver and Gold that the children can aim for as they develop at the club. Older children have the opportunity to swim for a platinum award. More details will follow.

Pool Closure

Hindley pool will be closed from the 1^st May for 3 weeks. We are currently looking into other venues to cover this period, please keep an eye on the notice board in the spectator’s area for details.

Charity Swim

Last year you may remember the kids did a sponsored swim in aid of the Tsunami fund, they raised £1000.00 and got a mention in the local press. We would like to do a similar swim this year but for 3 separate charities, Wigan Hospice, Cancer Research and Lymphoma. We will look at organising this and getting sponsorship forms out shortly for the swim to take place late May or June.

Next Committee Meeting

Will take place Wednesday 26^th March at 8.00pm at the conservative club in Hindley. Please feel free to attend
