Galas

This news letter is to give you information about the swimming galas the club swims in throughout 2009. You may or may not know but the club swims in various competitions throughout the year. These are the details of those competitions.

Bolton and District mini galas

This is a team event series of galas against other clubs, the club teams are the same for each gala and each team host the event in turn. The format is the swimmers of ages 9 through to 12 swim against each other for points, and the winners are the team with most points at the end of the gala. The 9 year olds swim in relay events, 4 swimmers each doing 25 Meters. The 10 and 11 year olds swim 50 Meter individual races and the 12 year olds swim 75 Meter individual races. The age of the swimmer for this district is based on the age on the day of the gala. After the mini leagues have all finished there are semi finals and then a A and B final.

Bolton and District Inter Club Gala

This again is a team event for the older swimmers. The swims are 100 Meter individual swims for the under 13,14 and 15 year olds plus an open age. The events also include 2 relay races and a cannon at the end. The age limits are base on the age on the day of the gala.

Manchester and District galas

Again this is a team event against other clubs, each gala has a different set of teams and each team will get the chance to host a least one of the galas. The format for the gala is each team picks 4 swimmers of a certain age group to compete in 100 meter relay races (25 Meters per swimmer). Each team gets points for their position in each race and the winning team is the one with most points at the end of the gala. The teams are split into age groups, 9 to 10 year olds, 11 to 12 year olds and 13 to 14 year olds and this is based on the age of the swimmer in that calendar year, so if your child is 13 in 2009 they will swim in the 13 to 14 year old races.

Age group competitions

These events are individual swim events organised by the B & D and M & D. Hindley ASC organise the entry to only one of these events, but the parents must pay the cost for their children to enter.

Because of ASA rules each swimmer must be Category 2 members to compete in these open events and must pay the club the extra £16.00 to become this level. By default all swimmers at Hindley ASC are Category 1 members of the ASA and the cost of this is covered in the signing on fee.

Coaches to Galas

The club organises and pays for a coach to most of the galas away from Hindley pool. To help with the cost we take a £2.00 contribution from each adult and £1.00 contribution from each child per event. This year we will only allow one adult per child on the coach to the M & D galas; this restriction does not apply to the B & D Galas.

Tuesday 10^th February at Hindley - 8.00pm for a 8.15pm start

Teams Saddleworth, Flixton and Royton

Tuesday 17^th March at Stalybridge 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start

Teams Stalybridge, Glossop and Aqua Bears

Sunday 26^th April at Marple 3.00pm for a 3.15 pm start

Teams Aqua Bears, Saddleworth and Marple

Monday 8th June at Royton – Do not know time

Teams Royton, Marple and Glossop
